Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Christ went to the land of Tyre and Sidon to reveal the Universal Kingdom of God to the pagans who lived there (Mt 15, 21-28). The Canaanite women was rewarded with the healing of her daughter at a distance, а miraculous healing, like that of the servant of the centurion, miracles which can take place only through the might of the Savior, Who overcomes the barriers of space and time to heal. Thus we see that for any miracle to take place, we first need faith and then humility, the faith and humility of the Canaanite woman, who asks for Christ’s mercy and help.
The teachers of the law toiled the whole night before Christ came (the time before Christ’s sojourning on earth was indeed night) and took in nothing. But when Christ came, and it became day, the teachers of the law were replaced by the Apostles who, at His word, that is, at His command, let down the net of the Gospel in which they caught so great a number of men that the Apostles could not haul in the catch by themselves (Lk 5, 1-11). And so they beckon to their partners and companions and together pull in the net. These are the pastors and teachers of the Church in every generation who teach and interpret the words of the Apostles, laboring with the Apostles to catch mankind.
The acid test of love is not whether we love our friends, but whether we love our enemies (Lk 6, 31-36). Russian Saint asked, “How do we know whether a person abides in God and is sincere in his Christian faith? There is no other way of ascertaining this than by examining the person’s life to see if he loves his enemies. Where there is love for one’s enemy, there also is God.” That is the great test of whether we are in tune with God; for that is what God Himself does.
Our Lord does four things in Luke 7, 11-16 scene: He sees the dead man’s bereaved mother, He feels compassion for her, He touches the bier, and He speaks. Christ God, the Logos (Word) of God, Who spoke creation into being, sustains us all, triumphs over sin and death on our behalf, entering into death as man and defeating death as God, making a path for us to find healing for our souls and eternal life with Him. The Church recognizes that true healing is ultimately more complex: physical healing involves not only the body, but also always involves the soul.
Christ’s parable (Lk 8, 5-15) challenges us to consider how we receive His Gospel. He compares us to the seeds sown here in this parable—some fell on the wayside, some on the rock, some among the thorns, and some on the good soil. If we want to become mature and God glorifying children of God, then we have to work diligently to tend to the needs of our souls. God is always doing His part; we have to do ours. We all start out as these little ‘seeds.’ If we wish to grow and thrive, then we cannot be passive when it comes to the health and growth of our souls.

Драга браћо и сестре у Христу,
Христос је отишао у области Тира и Сидона да објави Царство Божије многобошцима који су у њима живели (Лк 21, 15-28). Жена Хананејка је била награђена исцељењем болесне ћерке на даљину. Овакво чудо, као и чудо исцељења слуге римског заповедника, може да буде само од Спаситеља, који исцељује тако што надилази простор и време. Тако и ми видимо да је за свако чудо потребна вера и понизност, какву је имала жена Хананејска, која од Христа тражи милост и помоћ.
Учитељи старозаветног закона су ловили мрежама читаву ноћ до Христовог доласка (време до Христовог доласка у свет је свакако мрак) без успеха. Али када је Христос дошао, и када се разданило, учитеље закона су заменили Апостоли, који су на Христову реч и заповест бацили мреже Јеванђеља. У њих су уловили толико много људи, да улов нису могли сами да извуку, већ су морали да позову у помоћ пријатеље (Лк 5, 1-11). Ти пријатељи су свештеници и учитељи Цркве у свим генерацијама, који тумаче речи Апостола, и који им помажу у лову на род људски.
Потврда наше љубави није када волимо своје пријатеље, већ кад показујемо љубав према својим непријатељима (Лк 6, 31-36). Један руски светититељ је рекао: „Како да знамо да ли нека особа пребива у Богу, и да ли је искрена у вери хришћанској? Нема другог начина да се то провери, осим да се испита живот те особе да ли воли своје непријатеље. Где има љубави према непријатељима, ту има и Бога.“ То је велики тест да проверимо да ли смо у сагласности са Богом, јер је то оно што Господ чини.
У одломку из Светог Јеванђеља Лк 7, 11-16 Господ Христос чини четири ствари: Он види покојника који је оставио мајку, осећа према њој сажаљење, додирује одар и проговара. Христос Бог, Реч Божија, који је речју све призвао из небића, одржава све у постојању, тријумфује над грехом и смрћу у наше име, умире као човек и смрт побеђује као Бог, припрема нам пут да исцелимо наше душе и задобијемо вечни живот са Њим. Црква препознаје да је право исцењење много комплексније, јер излечење не укључује само тело, него и душу.
Христова прича (Лк 8, 5-15) нас позива да се запитамо као прихватамо Његово Јеванђеље. Он нас упоређује са сејачевим семеном, које пада поред пута, на камење, међу коров, али и на плодно тло. Ако желимо да узрастемо и постанемо деца Божија, треба предано да радимо на потребама наших душа. Бог увек чини оно што је до њега, али и ми треба да радимо оно што је до нас. Сви почињемо као ситно семе. Ако намеравамо да узрастемо и донесемо плод, не можемо да будемо пасивни када је у питању узрастање и здравље наших душа.
