Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Lazarus did not blame anyone for his poverty and misery (Lk 16, 19-31). He did not even reproach the rich man for his meanness. He accepted in humility his situation. And because of his humility he went to heaven. The rich man on the contrary never once thought of thanking God for his wealth. He did not show his gratitude to God by caring for the poor men at his gate. Because of his hard-heartedness he went down to hell. God did not allow the rich man in Hades to send a message to his brothers to warn them to repent, because it would have made no difference. Modern man has so blinded himself that the like the rich man, he cannot see Lazarus starving in agony at his gates.
On the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost we read about the Gadarene demoniac (Lk 8, 26-39). In this story we see the power of God, and how by a word He can cast out demons. We see the ultimate powerlessness of the demons. We see how fearful they are of our Savior, and we see how incredibly evil they are toward man and even unto beasts. And there is another lesson here, a terrible lesson, a necessary lesson in free will. God created us so that we would know Him, but He has not forced us to follow His commandments. Some choose to follow His commandments, and some choose to ask Him to leave.
Gospel reading (Luke 8, 41-56) is truly wonderful. It has to do with the raising of Jairus’ daughter and the healing of the woman with an issue of blood. Christ was delayed in His arrival at the house of Jairus, but He already knew that death did not hold permanent dominion over people. Saint Nikolaj Velimirović says: ‘His progress is difficult. That’s why He walks slowly. He makes His way through pools of blood, through the darkness of sins, through the thorns of robbers. His path is narrow and many fallen sinners lie on the brink of the abyss on either side. He has to stoop to both sides, to raise them and bring them along behind Him so that they all move forward together. This is why He walks slowly’.
On the Twenty Fifth Sunday after Pentecost we read about the Greatest Commandment and the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10, 25-37). This story presents the mystical teaching of Christ the Healer, and presents also that the church is to continue that role of healing, and reintegrating the personality with Christ. We are the man by the road. We are that man bleeding, and the Samaritan, our Lord, Jesus Christ, came and bound us up, and helped us to stop sinning. He did not just lay down commandments. He came and helped us.
How we should act as Christians, being compassionate, and who is our neighbor? Everyone is our neighbor. We just need to be reminded of that sometimes. God will save us. Amen.

Драга браћо и сестре у Христу,
Лазар никога није кривио за своје сиромаштво и несрећу (Лк. 16, 19-31). Он чак није ни осуђивао богаташа зато што је непријатан. Своју ситуацију је прихватао са смирењем, због чега је отишао у рај. Насупрот њему, богаташ није ни помишљао да захвали Богу за своје богатство. Поштовање према Богу није показао ни кроз бригу о сиромаху пред његовом капијом. Због тврдоће свога срца, завршио је у паклу. Бог није богаташу у аду дозволио да пошаље поруку његовој браћи и да их упозори да се покају, пошто то не би ништа променило. Вид данашњег човека је толико помрачен, да не може да види Лазара који пати и гладује пред његовим вратима.
У двадесет трећу недељу по Духовима читамо о гадаренским бесомучницима (Лк. 8, 26-39). У овој причи видимо силу Бога, и како Он речју изгони демоне. Видимо потпуну беспомоћност демона. Видимо колико су уплашени од Спаситеља, и колико су зли према чевеку, чак и према животињама. Међутим, постоји још једна поука, и то веома важна, она о слободној вољи. Бог нас је створио као такве да га спознамо, али нас не приморава да се држимо Његових заповести. Док неки људи желе да живе по Божијим заповестима, други траже од Господа да се удаљи.
Читање из Светог Јеванђеља по Луки 8, 41-56 је заиста дивно. Оно говори о васкрсењу Јаирове ћерке и исцељењу крвоточиве жене. Христос је закаснио у Јаиров дом, јер је знао да смрт нема трајну надмоћ над човеком. Св. Николај Велимировић каже: „Његово напредовање је тешко. Због тога Он хода полако. Он себи приправља пут кроз локве крви, кроз таму грехова, кроз разбојничке утрине. Његов пут је узак и многи пали грешници леже на ивици бездана преко пута. Он мора да опкорачи обе стране, да их подигне и стави на своја леђа, да би заједно могли да напредују. Он зато споро корача.“
У двадесет пету недељу по Духовима читамо о највећим заповестима, и причу о милостивом Самарјанину (Лука 10, 25-37). Ова прича је мистичко учење о Христу Исцелитељу, и казује да Црква треба да настави исцељење, и присаједини личност са Христом. Ми смо човек поред пута. Ми смо човек који крвари, а Самарјанин, наш Господ Исус Христос, дошао је да нас превије, и да нам помогне да престанемо да грешимо. Он нам није само дао заповести, већ нам је и дошао у помоћ.
Како треба да се владамо као хришћани, да будемо милосрдни, и ко је наш ближњи? Сваки човек нам је ближњи. Тога треба да се подсећамо, и Бог ће да нас спасе. Амин.
