Sunday, January 5th, 2020 – Serbian Father’s Day – In celebrating FATHER’S DAY we remember with esteem all the holy fathers from both the old and new Church. We also remember all the Serbian fathers who gave their lives for “the Holy Cross and golden freedom.”
Psychology and Religion agree that a child receives its first idea about God from its parents. And the role of the father is vital in developing that idea. Traditionally, one of the first things we teach our children is to cross themselves and pray, “In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
Consequently, the word “Father” is tied to God from the very beginning. Also, the first prayer we teach our children is the Lord’s Prayer which begins with “Our Father…” Again, here is a tremendous responsibility imposed upon the father since the word “Father” is tied directly to God. With this concept we are telling our children that God is like our Father. And this puts a heavy load on the father for he must be an example of everything good, moral, and charitable. Perhaps we should mention here also that children can get a totally opposite conception of God if their earthly father is a drunkard, or without love, understanding or forgiveness – or if he doesn’t care for his children. But in such cases, the mother comes to the rescue. By showing her devotion and inexhaustible love for her offspring, she overshadows the father’s weakness and molds a beautiful picture of God on their children.
Monday, January 6th, 2020 – Holy Nun-martyr Eugenia – Christmas Eve – The day before Christmas, January 6th on the new and December 24th on the old calendar, is called Badnjidan. It was named after cutting a ‘Badnjak’ that day and bringing it into the house. With this day, the Christmas celebration is already beginning. Early in the morning, at dawn, the firing of rifles and prangians announces a departure for the Christmas tree. As soon as it dawns, a fire is lit and a roast is attached to it. The women in the house bring Christmas cookies, cakes, prepare the table for Christmas.
Tuesday, January 7th, 2020 – The Nativity of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ – CHRISTMAS – “And when the fullness of time was come, God sent His only-begotten Son” (Gal. 4:4), to save the human race. And when the ninth month had come after the archangel Gabriel appeared to the most holy Virgin in Nazareth, saying: “Hail) thou that art highly favoured… thou shalt conceive and bear a son” – at that time a decree went forth from Caesar Augustus that all the inhabitants of the Roman Empire be taxed. In accordance with this decree, everyone had to go to his own town and there be inscribed.
Wednesday, January 8th, 2020 – Synaxis of the Most Holy Theotokos – On the second day of Christmas, the Christian Church gives glory and praise to the most holy Mother of God, who bore our Lord and God and Saviour Jesus Christ. This feast is called a “general commemoration” because, on this day, all the faithful come together to glorify her, the Mother of God, and to celebrate a triumphant, common feast in her honour. In Ochrid, it has been the custom from time immemorial that, on the eve of the second day of Christmas, Vespers has been celebrated only in the church of the Mother of God, the Chieftain. All the clergy and people there together glorify the most pure Mother of God.
Thursday, January 9th, 2020 – Holy Apostle, Protomartyr and Archdeacon Stephen – He was a kinsman of the Apostle Paul and one of those Jews who lived in a Hellenic milieu. Stephen was the first of the seven deacons whom the holy apostles ordained for the service of the poor in Jerusalem. This is why he is called the Archdeacon – the first, or chief, of them. By the power of his faith, Stephen worked many wonders among the people. The wicked Jews disputed with him, but were always confounded by his wisdom and the power of the Spirit who acted through him.
Tuesday, January 14th, 2020 – JAN. – Circumsision of Our Lord; ST. Basel the Great (New Year) – On the eighth day after His birth, the divine Child was taken to the Temple and duly circumcised according to the Jewish Law that had been observed from the time of Abraham. At this time He was given the name Jesus, the name announced to the most holy Virgin by the Archangel Gabriel (Luke 1:31). The Baptism of the New Covenant was prefigured in the Circumcision of the Old Covenant. The Lord’s Circumcision shows that He took true human flesh upon Himself, not its semblance as heretics later taught of Him.

Church School and Other Childrens’ Activities
This Sunday there will be Sunday School and folklore practice. The Sunday School classes start at 10 AM and folklore practice after the Devine Liturgy.
This Sunday we will continue enrolling students into Sunday School and folklore.
As we start the new school year, it is important to keep God in our hearts, as He will keep us on the right path.
Registration costs are: for the first child $140, for the second child $100, and for the third child is free.
We wish you a happy and blessed beginning of the following school year.

Lunch will be available for children and adults Sunday, January 5th 20nd and January 12th, 2019 after the Holy Liturgy in the church hall.
This year as in previous years we are conducting a Food Drive’ at our parish through January 7th, 2020. Please bring any non-perishable food, such as caned food or boxed food such as pasta and cereal to church. We will have a shopping cart ready by the candles for you to deposit the food. Недеља, 5 јануар 2020 .г. – Оци – Прослављајући дан оци, са поштовањем се сећамо свих светих отаца из старе и нове Цркве. Такође се сећамо свих српских очева који су дали своје животе за „Свети крст и златну слободу“.
Психологија и религија се слажу да дете прву идеју о Богу добија од својих родитеља. А улога оца је од виталне важности за развој те идеје. Традиционално, једна од првих ствари коју учимо своју децу је да се укрштају и моле се: „У име Оца, и Сина и Духа Светога.“
Сходно томе, реч “отац” везана је за Бога од самог почетка. Такође, прва молитва коју учимо своју децу је молитва Господа која почиње с “Оче наш …” Опет, овде је огромна одговорност која се намеће оцу с обзиром да је реч “отац” директно везана за Бога. Овим концептом поручујемо својој деци да је Бог попут нашег Оца. А то оптерећује оца, јер он мора бити пример свега доброг, моралног и добротворног. Можда би овде требало поменути и то да деца могу добити потпуно супротно поимање Бога ако им је овоземаљски отац пијанац, или без љубави, разумевања или опроштења – или ако не води рачуна о својој деци. Али у таквим случајевима мајка долази у помоћ. Показујући своју побожност и неисцрпну љубав према свом потомству, она засењује очеву слабост и обликује прелепу слику Бога о њиховој деци.
Понедељак, 6 Јануар 2020.г. – Свети Прподобнамученица Евгенија – Бадњидан – Дан уочи Божића, 6. јануара по новом а 24. децембра по старом календару, зове се Бадњидан. Назив је добио по томе што се тога дана сече бадњак и уноси у кућу. Са овим даном већ почиње Божићно славље. Ујутро рано, већ у зору, пуцањем из пушака и прангија објављује се полазак у шуму по бадњак. Чим сване, ложи се ватра и приставља се уз њу печеница. Жене у кући месе божићне колаче, торте, припремају трпезу за Божић
Уторак, 7 јануар 2020 .г. – Рождество Христово – БОЖИЋ – „А кад се наврши вријеме, посла Бог Сина својега јединороднога” (Гал 4, 4), да спасе род људски. И кад се испуни девет месеци од благовести, коју јави архангел Гаврил Пресветој Деви у Назарету, говорећи: „Радуј се, благодатна… ево зачећеш и родићеш сина, и надјени му име Исус” (Лк 1, 18 и 31). У то време изиђе заповест од кесара Августа, да се попише сав народ у Царевини римској. Сходно тој заповести требаше свако да иде у свој град и тамо се упише.
Среда, 8 јануар 2020 .г. – Сабор Пресвете Богородице – Други дан Божића Црква хришћанска одаје славу и хвалу Пресветој Богоматери, која роди Господа и Бога и Спаса нашега Исуса Христа. Сабором се њеним назива ово празновање зато, што се тога дана сабирају сви верни, да прославе њу, Матер Богоридицу, и што се торжествено, саборно, служи у част Њену. У Охриду је од старине био обичај, да се уочи другог дана Божића вечерња служи само у Светој Богородици званој Челница. Све свештенство са народом ту је саборно прослављало Пречисту Богоматер.
Четвртак, 9 јануар 2020 .г. – Свети Првомученик и Архиђакон Стефан – Сродник апостола Павла, и Јеврејин од оних Јевреја, који живљаху по областима јелинским. Беше Стефан први од седам ђакона, које апостоли свети рукоположише и поставише на службу око помагања сиротних у Јерусалиму. Зато се и прозва архиђаконом. Силом вере своје Стефан чињаше чудеса велика међу људима. Злобни Јевреји препираху се с њим, но биваху увек побеђивани његовом мудрошћу и силом Духа, који кроз њега дејствоваше.
Уторак, 14 јануар, 2020 .г. – Обрезање Господње; Свети Василије Велики (Нова Година) – У осми дан по рођењу би Младенац божански донесен у храм и обрезан сходно закону постојећем у Израиљу још од времена Аврамова. Том приликом надедоше му име Исус како је и благовестио архангел Гаврил Пресветој Деви. Старозаветно обрезање предображава новозаветно крштење. Обрезање Господа показује да је Он примио на себе истинско тело људско, а не привидно, како су доцније учили о Њему јеретици.

Цркевена Школа и Остала Дечија Активност
Ове недеље и наследним недељама часови веронауке ће да се одржавају са почетком у 10 ујутро као и обично. Фолклор проба одржаава ће се као и обично одма после Свете Литургије.
Настављамо са уписом деце у Недељну Школу и у фолклор.
Увек се потсетите да Божији благослов и заштитa потребни је увек у нашем свакодневном животу.
Трошкови уписa за децу су: за прво дете $140, за друго $100, за треће је упис бесплатан.
